# From a Hardware Wallet

A hardware wallet like **Ledger** or **Trezor** enhances security by keeping your private keys offline. By integrating it with **MetaMask**, you can interact with decentralized applications (dApps) while ensuring your assets remain protected.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Open **MetaMask** in your browser. Click on your profile icon and select **+ Add account or hardware wallet**

{% step %}
Select **Add hardware wallet**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/Fu2ScgD0fLTql78Fp1AQ" alt="" width="338"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Choose **Ledger** or **Trezor** and click **Continue**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Connect and unlock** your hardware wallet.&#x20;

Your can now follow on with the steps outlined in the [**software wallet guide**](/how-to-convert-emaid/from-a-software-wallet.md) to complete your eMAID conversion
{% endstep %}
